Introduction –
The National Testing Agency administers the computer-based online Joint Entrance Exam, JEE Main exam each year. It is meant for people who want to study engineering as an undergraduate at prestigious universities in India.
Paper 1 and Paper 2 are the two papers that make up the JEE Main 2026 test. Candidates wishing to be admitted to undergraduate engineering programs (B.E./B.Tech.) at universities, CFTIs, NITs, IITs, state-funded/reputable institutions, and other institutions are intended to take Paper 1. However, the purpose of Paper 2 is to admit students to the B. Arch programs.
India is home to numerous prestigious universities, including 23 IITS, 31 NITs, 25 IIITs, and other public and private institutions. According to their position and percentile in the JEE Main and JEE Advanced Exams, candidates will be admitted to these institutes.
Eligibility criteria for JEE mains –
You must have received at least 75% in your class 12 (CBSE, ISC, board, etc.) scores to be qualified for this exam. If not, pupils must have scored in the top 20 percentile on the Class 12 exam that their committee administered. To be eligible, candidates who identify as SC or ST must receive at least 65% on their Class 12 board exams.
Age Requirement: Candidates who want to take the JEE Main exam have no age restriction.
Eligibility criteria for JEE advance –
A student's JEE Main rank must be less than 2,50,000 for them to appear in JEE Advanced.
Exam pattern –
The three-hour JEE Main Paper 1 is administered online in the fields of physics, chemistry, and mathematics.
There are 90 questions in all, with 30 questions from each topic (20 multiple-choice questions plus 10 numerical). Candidates are required to attempt 75 questions total, or 25 questions per subject, out of these 90 questions.
For multiple-choice questions (MCQs), a correct response will yield +4 marks, while a wrong response will result in a -1 mark. Unattempted questions will not result in a mark deduction. For questions that are numerical in nature, every right response will receive +4 marks. No points are deducted for poorly answered or skipped questions.
Application process –
The exam conducting body often opens JEE Main registration prior to the final exam. There will be two registration events in 2026. Updates must be made to the Session 1 registration form, which will reopen later for Session 2. The sole way for candidates to register for JEE Main 2026 is through the official website. The application fees must also be paid. It is advised that candidates double-check all of their personal and academic information before submitting their JEE Main application.
JEE Main syllabus –
The JEE Main syllabus is primarily based on the NCERT textbooks, but there is a separate JEE syllabus prescribed by NTA. It includes disciplines like maths, physics, and chemistry that are taught in classes eleven and twelve.
Although the JEE Main exam's questions are simple, passing them demands a great deal of ingenuity, practice, and planning. The time constraint is one of the major issues that students typically confront.
In order to get around this, students must master time management techniques and problem-solving techniques to guarantee they pass the test. Additionally, students should have a thorough comprehension of every subject included in the JEE Main syllabus before beginning their preparations.
